Predators and Prey (or P&P) is a group game of accusation and intrigue played on Vulpine Hollow, based off of the popular game called "Mafia. In this game, two factions, predators and prey, each attempt to devour the other faction. The faction left standing at the end wins.

In this variant, it is not getting eaten that knocks you out of the game, but being digested and/or processed.

Notice

For the purposes of this article, digestion is related to role play and NOT related to game play.

The term "Digested" will be used for convenience. Players who are don't like digestion are simply rendered so happy from their prolonged endo they are unable to speak and unwilling to leave. Also, players who love horrible digestion are free to talk about how horrible being inside someone else is, but if they are spat up they are perfectly fine from the game's perspective.

Try to keep this in mind when crafting scenarios. Have health potions for Leshana and shrinking potions for Timber.

Basic Rules

In a normal game of Pred and Prey, you have two factions: Preds and Prey

In a normal game of Pred and Prey, you have two conditions: Not eaten and eaten.

In a normal game of Pred and Prey, you have three statuses: "Away", "IC", and "DnD"

In this variant, there are two factions:

  • Scum: Who are trying to get everyone but themselves digested.
  • Town: People who are trying to avoid becoming digested by digesting the Scum.

In this variant, there are four conditions:

  • Alone: You have not been eaten, nor have you eaten anyone. Vanilla roles such as investigator or watcher do not work for Alone players.
  • Fed: You have someone inside you.
  • Eaten: You are inside someone.
  • Digested: You have been removed from play.

In this variant, there are five statuses:

  • Pred: You may only be Normal or Fed. However, if the Night-Phase starts and you are not Fed, you Starve and are removed from play.
  • Away: You may be Normal, Fed, Eaten, and Digested.
  • IC: You may be Normal, Fed, Eaten, and Digested.
  • DND: You may be Normal, Fed, Eaten, and Digested.
  • Prey: You may be Normal, Eaten, and Digested. Eaten Prey may choose to privately reveal their vanilla role (such as investigator or watcher) to the player who ate them. If they do, then the Fed player has the choice of using either his vanilla role or his meals vanilla role during the Night-Phase. To prevent Prey from being overly targeted by Scum, if the Scum Night-kill a Prey, they forfeit the next night's Night-Kill.

In this variant, Pred and Prey are not side-lines. They are players. People who wish to side-line should use the LFRP status.

Everyone knows who has eaten who. The GM should also keep track and be able to copy and paste the current list upon request. When you are Eaten, you still talk and vote. From a role play perspective, the talking is being done through someone's stomach walls, but no penalty occurs until you are Digested.

Players may privately whisper with their meal or host.

During the Day-Phase, you may engage in consensual vore freely. An Alone player may ask another Alone player to eat them. If the other player agrees to eat you, then you become Eaten and he becomes Fed. An Aline player may also ask another Alone player to feed him. If the other player agrees, you become Fed and he becomes Eaten.

What happens once you become Fed? Fed players may not eat a second player. Fed players may not be eaten by another player. Fed players may not be Digested. They are immune to Night-Kills or special abilities that eat or digest players. It's good to be Fed in this game, but you may still cough up your meal at any time during the Day-Phase.

What happens once you become Eaten? Nothing immediately. You still interact with players and may vote for lynchings. While Eaten, you are at risk for becoming Digested. And of course, once you are Eaten, you may not escape unless you have assistance of some kind.

So if being Fed is so advantageous and being Eaten is so risky, why would you volunteer to be eaten?

Night Kills

In a normal game of Pred and Prey, the Pred night-kill by eating someone.

In this variant of the game, the Scum night-kills by inducing digestion in someone who is Fed. The Fed person whom they are forcing to digest can be either Scum or Town. This is handled by the Scum messaging the GM who they want to digest. The GM then informs the player by private message, and he begins an appropriated post that is made to the entire chat.

However... there is a second method of night-killing...

If there is at least one Scum that is not inside a stomach, then they may request the GM devour ALL Alone players. This will remove them from play. This is all or nothing, so if there are a mix of Town and Scum players, this will devour all of them indiscriminately.

Scum may choose either method of night-killing, but they may not voluntarily refrain from night-killing. If the only available targets are Scum, they are forced to digest one of their own.

Lynching

In a normal game of Pred and Prey, a lynching results in the target being devoured.

In this variant of the game, the effects of the lynch depends on a players condition.

If an Eaten player is Lynched, he is Digested. The Fed person who ate him makes the appropriate post. The GM reveals his role, and the Day-Phase ends.

If an Alone player is Lynched, he is eaten. The deciding vote determines who eats him. The lynch target is also give the "Helpless" role, which means the player who ate him may digest him at any time he wishes. The day-phase does not end, but a second lynch may not take place. Players by vote No Lynch to end the day early.

  • If the person who cast the deciding vote is also Alone, then he eats the lynch target.
  • If the person who cast the deciding vote is Fed, he spits out his current meal and eats the new one.
  • If the person who cast the deciding vote is Eaten, look at previous votes until you find one that is Alone or Fed.

If a Fed player is Lynched, he is forced to spit up his meal. If the target's status is Pred, he is barred from eating and will starve during the Night-Phase. Otherwise, the target changes his status to Prey. The target gains the "Fearful" role, and is unable to say no to being Eaten. The day-phase does not end, but a second lynch may not take place. Players by vote No Lynch to end the day early.

Win Conditions

The Scum win when all Town players are either Digested or Eaten or otherwise Removed from Play.

The Town win when all Scum players are Digested or otherwise Removed from Play.

It is not enough for Scum to simply outnumber Town, because some of the Scum may be prey, or prey may have a hungry fellow who can manually even up the odds.

Because it is not possible to win if the Scum are all Prey, such a game should be rerolled.

Roles

Variant Specific Roles

Helpless / Hungry

These roles may be either Scum or Town. They may be used to compliment other roles. If a player is unable to be one of these roles due to Pred or Prey status, be becomes the other one instead.

Helpless players are totally at the mercy of anyone who eats them. If they are Eaten, they may be digested at any time during the Day-Phase. The Fed player will be notified by the GM privately after eating his meal. Feel free to tease him about it!

Hungry players need their nutrition. If they are Fed, they may digest the player they have eaten at any time during the Day-Phase. The Eaten player will be notified by the GM private he has been eaten. Look forward to being teased about it!

If a player is chosen to be digested in this manner, then the Day-Cycle ends, a post is made, and the Digested player's role is revealed.

Fearful / Confident

These roles may be either Scum or Town. They may be used to compliment other roles. If a player is unable to be one of these roles due to Pred or Prey status, be becomes the other one instead.

Fearful players are unable to resist anyone who wishes to eat them, and players may not say no to being devoured by a confident predator. However, there is a catch. This only happens if both players know it. There are three ways this could happen:

  • The Confident player announces he is confident. The GM will then confirm it.
  • The prey is fearful because he was lynched.
  • Someone with a role found out about the ability.

That last option has a special rule. If a player is discovered as fearful or confident, he is told who discovered him. The two players may then private message one another.

The GM will NOT confirm if one player calls out another for being confident or fearful.
