DESCRIPTION

A truly massive beast in of itself. This huge reptilian creature is truly an aberration of nature itself, having it's body a mixture of both serpent and lizard as well as having features also comparable to that of basilisks; it's form is quite difficult to describe into words!

It has three cobra-shaped heads; one primary head in the center that connects to the torso directly and two secondary heads that connect to the torso just behind the shoulders of it's forelegs, of which it has a torso, abdomen and midsection and from the midsection and down is it's hundred-foot long snake body. It has two pairs of legs, two forelegs and two midlegs, no hindlegs. The forelegs end in human-like clawed feet with three toes in front, one inner opposable digit claw, and on the outter ends of the foot is a curled dewclaw. The midlegs have only four forward-facing toes on the feet and they are incapable of grasping objects and are used for grasping terrain only.

The central head's neck flattens into a cobra-like hood, whilst the other two secondary heads do not. The hydra's body is covered in overlapping plates on it's back and underbelly, with thousands of overlapping smooth scales in-between, each scale is fringed with a short spine protruding out of their hide, and multiple spined frills along their cheeks and a spined throat pouches on their underjaws extending into the throat. Directly behind their midlegs are spikes which have extendable wingskin similar to that of a wyvern's wings, though these extend and fold depending on the midlegs' position from the body.

Their maws can extend quite widely open, revealing a mouth-structure and throat nearly identical to that of a snake, though they have many long sharp fangs instead of just gripping teeth, and a tube on the bottom jaw where the tongue extends outwards. The genitalia is located near the tip of the tail like it would be on a normal snake, said genitalia being that of a cloaca leading into a deep vaginal tunnel.

BACKGROUND

The thing that is now branded as Vana'thys-Var is actually the combined flesh and souls of three adventuring friends from three different walks of life, all fused into the same serpentine body by the will and power of an entity of pure chaos and change.

Vanathiel the human knight, Lana'thyssianna the elven sorcerer, and Inovar the dwarven paladin; these three adventurers were tasked with exploring ancient and decrepit ruins in search of ancient and long-forgotten relics of power, in one such adventure they had decided to enter a crypt that was rumored to be housing a nest of necromancers whom were intending on raising the dead inhabitants to utilize as an army against the city above said crypt and thusly the adventurers were tasked with venturing into the abandoned underground graveyard to root out and slay those whom sought to disturb the dead.

...that is, that's what they thought was going on in there.

What they found instead was that the townsfolk had misled them and as soon as they entered the underground chambers they had all been gassed with a trap that knocked all three of them unconscious. When they had awoken each of them had been strapped down to the floor with magical bonds amidst an intricate rune symbol, and whilst they still had their gear they were unable to do anything other than struggle. Amidst the runed circle were also the bound bodies of several live dangerou monsters--three giant snakes, an alpha basilisk, and the body of a massive jungle dragon of the wingless variety. As all of them struggled to break their bonds the runes beneath them began to glow.

The next thing any of them remembers is forcibly shattering their bonds as their bodies were shoved into the bodies of the rest of the things within the circle, pain enveloping them as both man and monster screamed in agonized torment as bones shattered, flesh melded, and minds shattered. When they next awoke they were in the middle of a clearing, and now all were of one mind and body--the individuals that were the elf, the human and the dwarf were gone replaced by only the single entity that was the Hydra. The jungle dragon's intelligence shielded them from becoming purely feral, the basilisk and the giant snakes were overpowered and their minds became one with the sentient ones.

They redubbed themselves to be known as Vana'thys-Var so that they would always remember whom they were. Cursed or blessed into their new forms, they began to wander the wilds of the world as they sought a new purpose for themselves and found such a calling.. claiming an ancient jungle for themselves, and killing and devouring any whom try to settle it. And this was their life for the next few months until a single robed figure invaded their new home and raised aloft a magical scepter and beckoned them to attack a city, and they were forced to obey without any real reason as to why.. and so they did, attacking a city and devouring nearly every living person that once called the place their home and leveling it to the ground--neither blade nor magic and not even siege weapon was able to pierce the hydra's hide..

Later they discovered that this robed figure was, in fact, a member of that town that had hired them previously and was there when they became this creature and they realized that the scepter he bore allowed him to control them entirely and they had no way to truly resist it. And no matter how badly they tried to hide from these individuals, one eventually found them and they were commanded to attack a place filled to the brim with people--and always were they commanded to 'eat their fill' of the inhabitants until their stomach was filled to the brim. Entire kingdoms were lost over the course of only a few years, until the Gods' themselves decided to intervene. The Goddess of Nature blessed the Hydra with an ever-increasing resistance to the scepter's effects, and the God of Magic had sent his Avatar to root out and destroy this cult. In time, the scepter was taken back and hidden by the Gods' Avatars and the Hydra was allowed to live the rest of her days in relative peace in the depths of the world's jungles.. never again called to attack the lands of men.

...but the constant years of being forced to devour humanoids in such massive numbers has soiled their minds and given them the taste for humanoid flesh, relishing in the way that their meals would squirm and wriggle all the way down into their bellies to be digested. Once every ten years they would emerge from the wilds to devour any whom decided to settle too close to their homes until they could no longer eat and would return to the jungles to settle their catches. Their lair littered with the bones of thousands upon thousands of victims, and containing a hoard of countless treasures--the tale of the Beast Who Devoured Kingdoms is told amongst many generations of individuals, and the Gods--in thier immense fickleness and partial amusement--set for a task that any mortal that either successfully harmed the World Hydra or stole a single item from her hoard, no matter how small or low in worth, would obtain the status of Demigod of their chosen pantheon.

This was done in the hopes that countless mortals would invade her lair and keep the beast sated with their flesh and not find a need to go out and hunt, and it worked. She was well-fed through the folly of mortals and the Gods managed to keep her within the jungles--rarely does she leave the Jungles of Skar-Vhasl... until now.
