Samyana

Samyana is an ancient lung dragon that has decided to retire to a more peaceful existence where he enjoys the little things in life and see if he can’t make the life of others a little bit more exciting in the process.

In his youth, eons ago, Sammy was a thrill and pleasure seeker. He loved to pester gryphons just to be able to evade their sharp beaks and enjoyed picking fights with western dragons just to prove his superiority. He used to court available and unavailable potential mates just to see what he could get out of it and more often than not came out with scratches, bruises and singed fur. When he had tried everything as a dragon, he turned to shapeshifting into other creatures and humanoids to extent the realm of possibilities to their level as well. It was all about being the strongest, fastest, most successful around back then.

As he grew older, Sammy calmed down as experience settled in. During what could be considered early adulthood for the young lung dragon, he instead started seeking knowledge and to settle down as much as his wild, curious nature would allow him to. To do so, Sammy often took the shape of a student in the current culture and era he found himself in to learn in schools about all sorts of subjects, from wizardry to alchemy, from astrology to chemistry and from religious culture to personal development. Meanwhile, he’d try to brighten the lives of those around him with subtle use of magic to make their life a little better.

When he became an adult, Sammy had explored as much of the world he knew and had grown alongside it. He had seen both great and horrible events from the war on magic in various cultures to the advancement in medicine which allowed otherwise frail creatures to live beyond the age of a 100 years old. He had taken part of some of those events at times he felt his help would be needed, but never interfered enough to make a large difference. Instead, he would reduce the suffering of victims or give a hand to someone whose train of thought might have been stuck just before reaching a solution.

His passion for everything living and his special love for the fleeting humanoid’s lives forged his taste to always be changing and moving. When his need to find a mate arose, he first turned to others of his kind, but soon realized that he could not adapt his lifestyle to both be present for his dragon mate and still partake among the humanoid’s world. His love life soon became another mean for him to explore life itself. He felt fiery love of dragons, the gentleness of humans and furries, the loyalty of dwarves, the exaltation of elves, the roughness of orcs and everything in between. He has had many mates from his many “lives” and eventually, the need stopped being so strong in his heart.

In today’s times, Sammy can be considered venerable although he is still young looking. He has lived through greatness and darkness. He has seen beauty and ugly. He has felt silk and iron. He has found a small pocket of the world where old meets new, where large meets small, where magic meets technology. This place seems full of curiosity and unaffected by time. A good time and place to take a break and just enjoy himself, wouldn’t you think?

Sammy is a mix between a kitsune a lung dragon meaning a great magical being and I hoped to show through his story that he is incredibly powerful, but prefers not to do any great feat of magic. Instead, he likes to size and shape shift and does subtle spells here and there. If your character feels magic, then Sammy can be considered a powerful being.

Sammy’s real size comes a bit smaller than a hundred feet, but he rarely uses that size anymore as it is both scary to smaller beings and makes it rather uneasy to move around anywhere. He prefers a much more manageable size of 25-30 feet or changes to a humanoid form (of himself or mimicking another race) to move around.
