Species: Kobold

Hm? What's this? A D&D character?

That's correct! Rina the kobold (for the uninitiated, that's a type of small lizard creature), consummate life mage. So what's up with her?


The Kobold
For a kobold, Rina is actually rather tall, coming to 3'2'' if you count the small, smooth-tipped horns arcing back along her head. Her eyes are a rich, navy blue, with expansive irises and misty white pupils that hint that sometimes she might have trouble seeing clearly. Her face is a soft thing, snout being short and somewhat broad, with small nostrils set at the front. The small lizard's mouth lies slightly below, with two small fangs slightly exposed in a natural minor overbite. The rest of her teeth inside are also mostly canines, and they seem to be quite healthy and clean, resting in small blue gums along the entrance to her jaws. The scales on her face are thin enough that she's actually capable of visibly blushing... which she has a high propensity to do, given reason.

The kobold's blood is an unusual blue, an odd biological quirk owing either to regenerative magic laced into it, or some bizarre artifact from her draconic heritage. The inside of her maw is a similar color, going down the throat and getting a little darker from shadows until her belly, which actually lets off a slight blue glow that bathes what's inside her in silhouetting light as they bathe in various kobold tummy slimes and drool. It does not take a stretch of imagination to figure out the coloration and glow of other of her interior surfaces.

Her frame is slight, and rather lithe, though it's underwhelming by virtue of her size alone. Small, rounded bumps line her back and neck, tracing the vertebrae of her spine all the way down to her smooth, drooping white tail, which tapers slightly and is adequately prehensile. Her white to blue-white scales are very small, nearly impossible to see individually without looking very hard for the minute grooves running between them. They are also plated rather than aligned, allowing her to be stroked both directions without issue. The kobold's hands and toes have small, well-kempt claws at the ends of the digits.

Her white-scaled chest is lightly muscled, in-shape, but by no means exceptional, with a small naval below, and a flatness attesting a complete lack of breasts. She weighs 26 pounds (~12 kilograms), and is plantigrade, with the capability of moving on all fours or just two legs. She knows martial arts, but rarely uses them to any effect, having a rather fatalistic disposition and aversion to causing pain unsuited for the demands of combat. Being primarily cold-blooded with an inconsistent energy level doesn't help either.



Rina is only really gifted in the area of bringing the dead back to life, which she pursues with a stolid zeal. She's surprisingly savvy going about it; she's willing to try multiple different methods, sometimes simultaneously, to accomplish the task of getting a poor soul into a suitable body. Of course with the know-how and an almost savant-like affinity for sparking life comes healing of various sorts as well, and she's studied removing curses long enough to come up with one or two herself.


As for her personality... in essence, she's rather no-nonsense, but with the amount of nonsense that often seems to come her way, she's begun to just accept and deal with it without too much fuss. She's a rather jaded gal as well, not really too depressed or cynical so much as just used to being devoured or inconvenienced due to her almost pathetic lack of self-defense and what apparently seems to be, in other monsters' opinions, a very tasty body. Being around so many creatures with the ability and propensity to devour her every day certainly has a part of that. She does not worship dragons like most of her kind (being more part-dragon herself than most kobolds), and her lack of adequate respect for such has netted her in trouble on a few occasions. She is hopelessly pacifistic as well, with the knowledge that she can heal or even reconstitute her body (as enormous of a pain as it is) she is often more inclined to let herself be hurt rather than inflict lasting damage on someone.



The Story
The Uz kobold clan, a clan of surprisingly well-meaning kobolds that strode undauntedly to escape from the evil ways of chromatic dragons and the widespread prejudice against their small, weak, lizardy race. They fought bravely for truth, acceptance, and to not get slaughtered by roaming adventurers. To great surprise, they mostly succeeded, but one day, a blue egg speckled with white spots was discovered in the warrens.

What to a clan of average kobolds might be called a blessing of their ancient draconic blood, instead struck fear and unease into the clan. An unhatched kobold with the awakened blood of a white dragon, one of the most needlessly destructive chromatic monsters in existence?? With their tentative acceptance amongst other races, they couldn't afford the risk of harboring a creature that might grow up with old world views and the destructive powers to spread them. They stole away with the egg in the night, leaving it at the doorstep of a monastery and ringing the proverbial doorbell, hoping they could raise it as a monk and teach it not to bother anybody.

The success of that is a matter of opinion, but this kobold certainly isn't gonna be slinging magical eldritch fury around any time soon.
