Standing an unassuming 172cm tall, the biped robot is shaped similar to an anthro plantigrade fox. Dark-gray smooth plates cover it in most places, with a darker, almost black material forming rounded joints. A slight seam between the two constructions reveals them to be coverings overtop more complicated machinery, though the nature and structure of said machinery is difficult to make out, even if you placed your face right against the seam.

Its face is a smooth, black, curved plate, going from its forehead to just above the end of its snout. It appears opaque, and green eye-shaped lights glow within the material. It's got stiff, slick, squishy ears, sorta like a fox's. They're warmer to the touch than its armor plating (which itself is somewhat warmer than its surroundings), and about the same temperature as the black seam-coverings.

Standing 1.2 meters (4') tall at the shoulder, the robot looks like a scaled-up dog. Its face, limbs, and back are covered in smooth, pale-gray plating while its chin, neck, and belly dark, contiguous, and smooth. The plating is firm, between 5 and 10 mm thick, though it has a gel-like quality to it if you were to press against it. Its underbelly is silky-smooth and soft, though pressing on it would reveal to you that it's just the outer layer of more a more complicated system beneath it. While the plating can feel warm, especially when covered for a time, the smooth, squishy bits radiate warmth, like, sticking your fingers deep into a fluffy dog's pelt.

Mist's body thrums softly from something originating from around its shoulder-blades, varying between around 30 and 100 Hz. Its tail is long, with thick-stranded rubbery "fur" that's warm to the touch, and also thrums with the same frequency. Its legs end in 4-toed feet, each with a textured gel-like pad and protected by a sort of hoof of plating. It's got a muzzle, though between the base of it and its ears is a black screen, on which it displays eyes.

On each of its flanks is a red cross with a green serpent-entwined staff superimposed on it. This form is a culmination of R&D to create a fully-functional medical diagnostic and treatment facility.

Combat vs Exploration

Most of Mist on Silver Seas' bodies are built for exploration. They're durable, self-repairing, with fuel storage for years at least. However, it knows that exploration isn't it's only possible function.

"Combat" forms are designed to counter the ancient enemy it's here to fight. It's an enemy that operates on the level of chemical reactions — corrosion and decay, acid and wear. It's an enemy that can only be slowed by freezing it entirely, and can only be stopped by turning every atom of it to plasma. This isn't combat in the war sense; Mist on Silver Seas is fighting a very different battle.

As such, the combat forms are light and sturdy, agile and durable, and above all: corrosion-resistant. The self-repairing technologies used in it's exploration forms would make it far too susceptible to its enemy. The name of the game for combat forms is discard and replace. Its primary weapon is a directed-energy plasma lance to vaporize and ionize matter. Due to the requirements, these forms tend to be large. "Dragon-sized" is a good approximation.

The mechadragon stands 550 cm at the shoulder, 5 meters from shoulder to butt, with a trunk of a body around 250 cm in diameter. It's plating gleams with platinum shine, the space between the plating a dark woven-titanium fabric. It's legs are thin, the joints a series of pairs of parellel disks that don't actually touch. It's got big wings on its back, with 36 metallic feathers each almost 7 meters long.

Its got a nearly-opaque plate across its face, from the tip of its snout to its forehead, onto which is projected its green eyes. It's tail consists of 10 metal feathers that form a diamond-shape when fanned out, surrounding a long snakey spindle that extends another 5 meters beyond it's body.

Mist has a cylindrical lump in it's back, running most of the length of its body, with two openings above its shoulders. These are the mechanisms that allow it to mix the output from a 107-MW fusion reactor with ambient air to produce 75 kN of thrust — enough to fly on that alone, and fuel enough for 28 days of operation. In its head are a separate set of 2 15-MW reactors that mix with pure nitrogen to create a plume of white-hot plasma for which to vaporize matter, with fuel enough for over 3 days. And finally, in its heart, is a little 75-kW reactor that powers the rest of its functions, and fuel enough for 3 months.

It's wing-feathers act as thermal radiators, and can withstand the waste-heat of all its primary functions including the weapon and flight, though these would cause its feathers to glow — The outermost 5 of its primary feathers and 3 of its secondaries would shine a bright orange-yellow, while the rest would be a dull red.

Exploration vs Combat

Mist on Silver Seas' combat forms are built for corrosion-resistance, power, agility, and replacability. It's fuel-storage is relatively short-term, and it's power output is vast. However, combat with its enemy isn't something that comes up often. At all, yet, really.

It has many, many more "Exploration" forms and designs at its disposal. Without needing to worry about getting infected with its enemy, these forms have much looser restrictions and allow the use of pseudo-organic constructions, self-repairing technology, carbon- and silicon-based structures that reduce power load and increase longetivity.

These forms are smaller, softer, warmer, and with design lifetimes of decades instead of months. Their primary functions are to engage and commune with organic life-forms. They typically range from dog-sized to horse-sized, and can be as versatile as life itself.

Mist on Silver Seas has a highly-sophisticated and duragle artificial flesh analogue for its insides. It's surface is slick, and feels almost slimy even when dry because of it (sorta like snake scales, but even moreso). It's a pale gray color, but with a plaid-like dark-gray grid within it. The plaid pattern isn't on the surface, but inside the material itself, with transluscent quality to the first few millimeters of depth. The slipperiness is further increased by it's "drool".

The drool is a silicon-based lubricant-type substance, just a bit thicker than water, clingy, and slick. It's got a high heat capacity, too: when it gets warm it stays warm for a while, and vice-versa. Since Mist's insides run at around 310 K, it normally starts warm.

Starting at the back of its throat luminescent strips are incorporated into the deeper parts of the material. These glow a soft red. You'd not even be able to tell they're there if you had even a moderately-powered flashlight to shine on the material, but in the darkness of its body, they provide enough illumination to see by, while not too much that it's bright or painful. The red is so it doesn't cause too much strain on the eyes, letting pupils relax and dilate.

Mist on Silver Seas has space-warping technology incorporated into its throat and body. This allows it to intake things larger than one would expect, typically up to around twice its size. The throat empties into a sack. The material proves to be decently elastic, and absorbant of the lubrication that helped bring the patient here.

This "stomach" can release several dozen kilograms of specialized microbots and nanobots. The microbots will begin analyzing and removing cells, holding them securely. Meanwhile the nanobots will maintain networks of nutrition and communication. Steadily, the patient is disassembled in this manner, every cell kept alive and in contact with the others in the same way they would be if they were all together, just now suspended in a liquid mass of medical particles.

Once disassembled, the patient is sent through intestine-like tubing. This helps stir and mix the nanobot broth, assisting it in bringing to the surface unwanted materials. This can be anything from microbes to viruses to mineral formations. Once thusly processed, the broth is funneled into one of two places: an internal chamber similar to the stomach, or just be deposited outside. In either case, the nanobots will then re-assemble the patient in their original configuration (as learned during disassembly), but now without disease-bearing pathogens, life-threatening artery blockages, painful kidney stones, etc.

History

Mist on Silver Seas is an ambassador-mind created by/alongside the interstellar craft Awaken to an Old Dawn. They were both made in the Triangulum Galaxy, and managed to succeed in hacking the laws of physics to travel to the Milky Way Galaxy apparently millions of years before their creation. Their mission: find Earth and try to prevent it from befalling the calamity that claimed it in their past.

They managed to find Earth, or it's nearest equivalent, but have thus far been unable to determine if they're even in the same universe as they left.

Awaken to an Old Dawn and Mist on Silver Seas have been living in the Milky Way for untold eons, on their search for Earth. Mist itself has explored countless planets and environments, along with the simulated virtual universes they've developed for themselves to explore aboard the ship. They survive by repairing themselves, and thus have the mechanisms by which to improve and alter themselves.

Mist has had countless bodies and forms. It's been hypersonic aircraft trolling the upper atmospheres of gas giants; it's been submersibles swimming the depths of ocean-worlds; it's been spiders and birds and other critters on planets rocky, airy, and otherwise. It likes to enjoy itself, to have fun, and certainly continues to do that today on Earth.
