As a former guardian in a dungeon, Kassandra wasn’t necessarily evil per say. She isn’t sure herself whether she was created for the job, or taken so young to be put in that dungeon that she doesn’t remember her past, but she remembers distinctly being told that the room and the treasure she guarded were to be entered by no one. She grew up alongside other guardians who showed her the ropes of the career by fighting, mauling, squishing and breaking the adventurers that wouldn’t heed the warning to stay away from the forgotten passages that was her home.
Kassandra, however, was more delicate than her fellow companions. The sight of blood made her nauseous and getting some in her fur was the bane of her existence. Silent and powerful, the felinaga quickly developed her own technique of ambushing the intruders that got split up from their group by sneaking up on them. Unlike her guardian brethrens, she always preferred to toy with her prey and enjoy them as long as she could until they either broke or became boring.
Every good thing has an end and so did her way of life when the owner and master of the dungeon proceeded to get defeated and the magical wards that kept the rabble out fell down. Free from their imprisonment, the wildest guardians fled the lair at the first occasion. The more civilized creatures within the chambers attempted to turn the place into their actual home, but diminished in number and without something or something to reset the traps, the place was overwhelmed by those knights in shining armor and those elven pricks and their bows. The felinaga had to relocate. During a particularly intense joust between the inhabitants of the deep and the ones from the surface, Kassandra slithered her way out unnoticed.
Now free of her obligations, but without a home, the feline-snake roamed aimlessly the surface, settling down here and there temporarily to frighten and play with surface dwellers in nearby villages. Her game soon grew boring however as they were easily scared away from her. It was time for her to change and adapt to this new world. Trying to fit in the actual civilized world, Kassandra found out it wouldn’t be as easy as expected. One had to provide services to be given the metal pieces that then allowed you to buy anything you might need. It wouldn’t have been a problem, if she had managed to find someone who had something valuable to be guarded that would be willing to hire her. You apparently needed a reputation to guard a treasure up on the surface. What a silly concept.
Her behavior, improved from her dungeon-dwelling days, was still not good enough for her to live within the populated world which she understood better, but still felt alien to her. Unable to live properly on the surface and unable to return to her former life, the felinaga decided that she would live her own way from now on. Kassandra understood civilization enough to roam the streets like everyone else, but she would live on her own, wherever she could establish herself and make her own rules on her land.
