Kalach

Sycia'Kalach the Ta'Ruui

The Ta'Ruui specie

Origin

The Ta'Ruuis are a species of alien reptiles that were enslaved by group of mercenaries hired by a mercantile conglomerate. The trading company held the name and position of their planets secrets so as to have the monopoly on the distribution of these highly sought after slaves. Intelligent and strong, the Ta'Ruui made for great manual labour workers or guards. However, throughout the years, the species became emancipated from the company who enslaved them through a slave uprising along with a federation council gathering that voted in a law to protect intelligent species with low technology from being captured and sold as a commodity. And thus, began the Ta'Ruui's new life as free beings looking to make themselves a spot in this strange and wonderful universe.

Description

The Ta'Ruuis are a specie of sentient reptilians with the body of a large snake and two arms. Best described as nagas, from Earth's folklore, they have the hooded head of a snake, the upper body of a humanoid though covered in scales and/or fur, two arms ending with 3 fingers with long claws and the lower body being just a long snake body or tail depending on how you consider it. Around their hips and along their shoulders, they have tentacles of varying length and strength with suction cups ending very similar to calamris on Earth. Being a specie of physical contact, these prehensile tentacles serve no other purpose than to feel their environment or grab small objects as their arms are their dominant limbs. Their strongest appendage would of course be their snake lower body which would lack the agility of fingers in return for the power to crush a car.

Social Behavior

The Ta'Ruuis are a very social specie where bonding to others is very important to them. Their communities are based on trust and they demonstrate trust through physical contact. To them, their community is their family whether they are blood-related or not. A Ta'Ruui needs physical contact with others or else, the stress of being alone affects them physically and mentally. Outside of a few strong-willed individuals, a Ta'Ruui who is isolated and forbidden from physical contact might wither and die even if fed. Prior to their enslavement, Ta'Ruui bonded exclusively with members of their own species, but now that the specie has been spread around the universe, they have adapted their behavior to bond with other species as well. It is a bit harder for a Ta'Ruui to trust someone from another specie, due to their historical background as slaves, but it isn't such a rare sight anymore to see a Ta'Ruui bonded to a family or a community composed of various individuals from other species.

Technological Knowledge

On their home planet, the Ta'Ruuis had mastered most technologies that could be found between the Medieval and Renaissance eras on Earth. From farming to metal working, they had created tools, furnitures, houses and other crafts. When they were brought aboard spaceships however, they couldn't comprehend what they saw or how such heavy vehicles could fly. Their years as slaves allowed them to understand how to use modern technologies, but to most members of the species, the "how" they work is lost to them. For example, they now understand that a television is a box that shows the animation of something that is happening elsewhere or something from the past, just like pictures are stills of the same thing, but they do not understand how those moving pictures get to the screen. They understand that land-based phones and cellphones are devices that allow you to communicate long distances, but they can't wrap their heads around how the voices are projected. So on and so forth.

Sycia'Kalach

Description

Sycia'Kalach, shortened to Kalach, is a Ta'Ruui who's lineage trace back to the slightly colder areas of his home planet. His body, instead of being only scales and skins, is also covered in tufts of soft fur, especially around the extremities. With black scales and skin covering most of his body along with a grey scale coat creating his markings, Kalach also has mostly white fur on the tip of his tentacles, on his hood, his elbows and on his tail tip. Standing at 9 feet tall with total body length from head to tail of 31 feet, he is above average in size for his specie. His two pairs of golden brown reptilian eyes shine with youth energy meaning that he could be a young adult in the range of 25-30 years old. He has never weight himself, but his bulk can easily be evaluated at a few hundreds pounds for sure, in the 600-700 range at a minimum.

Behavior

Kalach is a curious individual, but also cautious. Not used to these giant communities called cities that the general population gathers in, he doesn't understand why noone talks to each other and every flees the contact of one another. He has tried numerous times to adapt to a city life, but it has proven very difficult for him to get the physical contact he would like to get from people who become uneasy when someone enters their personal space. Kal started to believe that it might have something to do with the amount of individuals in those communities. His specie's largest community, or so he was told, was composed of 4000 individuals. Cities, he learned, can have millions. And thus, he has been looking for a smaller community to see if numbers are the reasons why everyone is so individualistic. Generally speaking, Kal is rather quiet though doesn't fear speaking to strangers. He is generally nice and gentle unless insulted or provocated. He is curious, but cautious when approaching others or something new he doesn't understand such as new technology. He also knows, from experience, that his appearance and size often scare others since he is alien-looking and threatening. To counter this fact, he often acts a bit submissive around strangers, to show he is no danger. However, he will become much more confident and dominant with someone that shows friendliness or trust as well as to someone he has bonded with.
