A myth in the Native American lore would have it that a mythical beast would exist in the mountains where it made its nest. According to the legends, the creature would be as tall as the trees, as large as the biggest boulders and as powerful as the raging spring rivers. It stands on all four, sporting the rear legs of a wolf and strange forearms sporting thick fur and ending in three claws. The beast actually has wing-arms, much like the wyverns of our modern legends and the thickness of its fur is hiding its feathers, only extending them when it requires taking flight. The myths about Howakhan would describe the bird-like creature to wear a mask over its face made of a material similar to polished stone, but able to withstand blows that would shatter such material. Behind the grey mask glows two emerald green eyes of curious intelligence and under the apparel, the edges of an orange beak as well as the long, dark mauve-colored ears can be seen.
Written descriptions of the creature would have it stand between 10 to 15 feet tall on all fours and about 30 to 35 feet long with its tail included. The fur that covers its body would be a dark purple with the exception of black boots covering its hind paws. Its claws on the arm-wings, its feather and its beak would be a bright orange and the wings would retract under the fur of its arms when not in flight, hiding them. The mask it wears would have a fox-like appearance with long ear-like horns at the end of it. Under it, two green eyes would be seen, but some say it is the mask that gives them this color rather than being its natural color. Aside from the mysterious mask and its provenance, the beast has another strange feature. The creature apparently lacks physical mean to communicate other than by the usual chirps and whistles expected from a bird, but it has been reported that a voice is often heard when encountering the creature. To some, it sounds like echoes all around, to others, it comes from within their head.
Myth and legend
From all the materials gathered on this creature, it is hard to make out what is the truth and what is the exaggeration due to the exhaustion of lost travelers and the hallucinations of tired observers. It is said that around the bird-like monster, one can feel incredible power, or as some have reported, magic. Aside from the possibility of the beast communicating via telepathy, which is a ludicrous assumption, it apparently was seen moving objects without touching them, altering the world around himself in a small area, from changing the weather to keep rain at bay to accelerating the growth of vegetation as it walked through a field. Such small scale, godlike powers are hard to believe, especially if the beast that holds them is rarely seen. It is our understanding that this creature should be classified in the same realm of existence as the yeti and big foot. Let the fool try and find it all they want.
