"Those who have the desire to rule often do not deserve it. I stand as living proof of that..."
The winter air carries a biting chill to it, snow piled high in drifts on the sides of the path. The wind, like knives upon bare skin, whips at your face as you try to stumble along, barely able to see for the snow flurries flying into your face. You can't possibly navigate, let alone find shelter in a blizzard like this. It's looking grim... And then, as suddenly as it started, the wind dies. The snow is still falling, but with the wind gone, each flake contrasting with the night sky, the scenery now carries a certain eerie beauty to it.
As the wind dies, you might even hear the faint impact of hooves on snow, as the pale outline of a horse emerges from the darkness. Winged and horned, he seems to regard you with a sad sort of understanding for a moment... Before simply speaking, softly.
"Please follow me, traveler. It's far too cold to be outside on a night like this..."
Frostmane is an alicorn, and an elderly one. His coat is pale, and seems to have a faint sheen to it, like that of freshly-fallen snow. He bears the image of a six-pointed snowflake on his flank, his body slightly chill to the touch. It's not known where he comes from, as no literature one can find in Equestria mentions him. And yet, he doesn't seem to mind that. When asked about his past, he simply replies that he's 'an old stallion who ought to be forgotten'.
And yet, in spite of his icy motif, his personality seems... Very warm. Friendly, even, when one approaches him with peaceful intentions. Living incarnation of winter he may be... but so many forget that Winter, for all its cold and ice, has a softer side. It's more than just ice and snow. It's spending the evening in front of the fireplace. It's getting together with family, sledding and ice-skating and snowball fights. When one looks at winter from that perspective... It's not odd at all that someone as physically imposing as an alicorn can be as sweet as Frostmane seems to be.
One shouldn't mistake his gentle personality for weakness, however. Soft heart or no, it's important to remember: an alicorn is still an alicorn, and one who commands absolute mastery over cold is not something to be trifled with, especially if one plans on hurting someone under his protection.
